Updating TabletopForge
This guide explains how to apply a new version of the TabletopForge theme without losing your existing settings and customizations.
Before You Update
:::caution Back up your customizations Shopify does not automatically merge your settings when you upload a new theme version. Before updating, note down or screenshot your existing settings — particularly custom CSS, metafield configurations, and section layouts. :::
We recommend the following preparation steps:
- Export your current theme: go to Online Store → Themes → click ⋯ Actions → Download theme file to save a backup
.zip. - Screenshot your theme editor layouts for each key page (Homepage, Product, Collection).
- Note any custom code added in Theme Settings → Edit code.
Uploading a New Version
- Log in to your Shopify Admin and go to Online Store → Themes.
- In the Theme library, click Add theme → Upload zip file.
- Upload the new
Tabletop Forge-X.X.X.ziparchive. - The new version will appear in your theme library as an unpublished theme.
Re-applying Your Settings
After uploading the new version, you need to re-configure it before publishing:
- Click Customize on the new version.
- Re-apply your color scheme, logo, typography, and navigation settings.
- Rebuild any homepage sections (Hero Carousel, Bento Grid, etc.) by referencing your screenshots.
- Re-enter any custom CSS snippets under Theme Settings → Custom CSS.
Publishing the Updated Theme
Once you have re-applied your settings:
- Exit the theme editor and return to Online Store → Themes.
- Under the new version in the theme library, click Publish.
- Confirm the dialog to make the updated theme your live storefront.
:::tip Keep the old version Leave your previous theme version in the library for at least 48 hours after publishing the update. This allows you to quickly roll back if any unexpected issues arise. :::
